BLOG: Spring Training

BLOG: Spring Training

With the passing Denver Broncos’ Super Bowl 50 win it’s finally that time of year again, Major League Baseball season. Starting in the third week of February pitchers and catchers reported to their respective spring training camp with position players reporting the following week beginning the road to the World Series.

March 1 marked the date of the first spring training games. Last year an average of 8,388 fans attended each spring training game, surpassing the previous record of 8,078 in 2014. Total attendance showed an 11.7 percent increase.

Bleacher Report is predicting that the Toronto Blue Jays from the American League and the Chicago Cubs from the National League will be the teams to beat this season. They predicted this by comparing last year’s team performance to this year’s roster.

imgresAfter the 2015 trade of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki (Tulo), the Colorado Rockies have some shifting to do. Tulowitzki had been the organizations shortstop for close to a decade with several MVP and All Star awards. After the brutal trade to the Toronto Blue Jays the team is left with some pretty big shoes to fill.

Potential Tulo replacements are rookies Trevor Story and Cristhian Adames.

Tulo made it obvious to the world that he is still angry with his trade, comparing the Rockies training facility at Salt River Fields to “a country club.” He also added that “guy’s got comfortable because it was so nice. This place has a better feel. It reminds you of spring training — the way it’s supposed to be.”

Being raised in Colorado you’d think it would be easy to be a Rockies fan, but with their consistent let-down seasons I have little hope for a World Series appearance.
