Transgender Birth Certificate Bill Wins House Approval

A bill to allow transgender people to change the listing of their gender on their birth certificates, without undergoing gender-reassignment surgery, has won initial approval in the Colorado House of Representatives.

The bill would allow people to have their original birth certificates sealed, without having them say that the gender has been changed.

The vote was unrecorded and generally determined by party allegiance, with most Democrats in support of the bill and most Republicans in opposition.

A recorded vote is required before the bill moves to the Senate, which is controlled by the Republican party. It is likely that the change will be rejected.
