This weekend, DECA will be competing in their state competition, going up against the best schools in Colorado. The event will be held at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs.
Mountain Vista is sending 74 of their best competitors, participating in various event categories. Many are new members eager to compete, including Freshman Jason Simpson. Simpson is in Marketing 1, and is competing in Sports Entertainment Promotion, and place in his event and move on to the finals.
“The most important part of competing is to be professional and organized while in a role play,” Simpson said. He has been preparing for the State competition, along with the other DECA members, for weeks.
Another student, Sophomore Drew Garrett is also participating in the competition this weekend. “I went to state last year, so I think I’ll have a better idea of how it’s going to work and what I need to do this year. I’m a little nervous, but excited that I can potentially be the best in Colorado for my category,” Garrett said.
The DECA state competition lasts from Feb. 25 to Feb. 26.
