KENZIE WINSLOW
The Met Gala, which is a benefit event for the museum’s Costume Institute, marks the opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute annual fashion exhibit.
Monday night, celebrities from across the country convened at the Metropolitan Museum. This year’s theme was “China: Through the Looking Glass.” The gala celebrated Chinese culture and fashion, which will be reflected in this year’s exhibit.
The Met Gala is notoriously difficult to dress for; stars spend weeks putting together their looks. The gala is fashion’s one night of the year where celebrities are encouraged to take risks.
The Red Carpet had many red dresses to show, but according to Vanity Fair, Allison Williams wore red best. Her dress, a Giambattista Valli, lined her waist, shoulders, and neck in black beads. Her neck was also adorned with a silver flower brooch. The bottom of her dressed pouffed out in such a way that only she can pull off.
Rihanna’s yellow outfit stunned the carpet and was well worth the wait. Guo Pei designed her fur-trimmed cape that required assistance from three men to move. Us Weekly stated that the train was the longest in the Gala’s history. Rihanna accented the outfit with an intricate headpiece that clung to her hair. Rihanna has held an impressive fashion presence at the last few events she has gone to.
