It is hard to find something nice to say about this movie. It is supposed to be an action/comedy, but the so-called “action” is far and few in between, and the overall story is so ridiculously stupid that it puts real comedy movies to shame.

A comedy is just like every other movie: it needs a strong plot with a beginning, middle and end.

“A strong story without a lot of laughs is preferable to a weak story with three jokes per page,” said D.B. Gilles, a screenwriting teacher at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts.

While watching “Mall Cop 2,” I was not exactly sure what the conflict of the story was supposed to be, and I did not know the climax had happened until the characters were celebrating their happy ending.

The “jokes” were also a big problem for me. I did not sit in the theatre laughing until my stomach hurt. I sat there wondering if the actors were actually being serious for once or making another lame joke.  Speaking of actors, I love Kevin James and I have seen him do incredible things in other movies, but I could not stand him in “Mall Cop 2.” The way he delivered his lines was awkward.  He did not make embarrassing scenes relatable, he made them more embarrassing until the audience was fidgeting in their seats uncomfortably.

Overall, “Mall Cop 2” dragged by one agonizing second at a time. If you want to watch it for maybe 20 minutes to get your Kevin James fix, then by all means go ahead. But if you’re looking for a quality movie that you wish will never end, better luck finding it elsewhere. I rate this movie one out of five stars, and that’s being generous.
