This summer, several movies are making their way to the big screen. With the extra time over break, there are a lot of opportunities to go to theatres with friends. Here are a few recommendations of upcoming films:
5. “Maleficent”
Set to release on May 30, right after school gets out, this movie is one of the most anticipated for the summer. Several previews showcase Angelina Jolie starring in “Maleficent”, a new twist to the classic Disney movie “Sleeping Beauty.” It is a darker rendition of the film from a new perspective and is recommended for anyone who loved Disney as a child.
4. “Guardians of the Galaxy”
Marvel’s new installment known as “Guardians of the Galaxy” will be released August 1. It expands the Marvel universe into space, where Chris Pratt stars as the main character, Peter Quill, also known as “Star-Lord.” The movie also stars Zoe Saldana (star of Avatar), Bradley Cooper and Karen Gillan.
3. “Edge of Tomorrow”
Bill Cage, the main character, plays an officer in the film. Cage is forced into what seems to be a suicide mission. He is killed within minutes and gets forced into a time loop where he has to keep reliving the horrible combat moments, continuously dying and fighting. With each battle, Cage’s skill increases and with each step, his chance of coming out on top becomes more achievable. The release date is June 6.
2. “22 Jump Street”
Releasing June 13, “22 Jump Street” is the sequel to the hilarious comedy “21 Jump Street.” Actors Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, who play undercover cops, Schmidt and Jenko, have finished their high school mission and are on to bigger and better things: college. Schmidt and Jenko must test their relationship and go undercover to solve a scandal involving drugs.
