No Staff Member Left Behind!
Very rare is it that a parent, student or faculty member avoid the ongoing conversations regarding the idea that teachers do not receive enough appreciation. Faculty and communities do their best with “Teacher Appreciation Weeks” and random acts of kindness, but co-owners of SCP Insurance Group Inc, Nic Vasilauskas and Travis Clower, took it upon themselves to go the extra mile.
“[I] recently started a group called Business Owners Supporting DCSD,” Vasilauskas said. “We are a small yet growing group of business owners whose members must have a direct tie to Douglas County [resident, business address, or parent] and that must commit to supporting our public schools.”
Throughout the past year, Vasilauska’s team has been dedicated to delivering a bagel to every single staff member throughout the Douglas County School District.
“It was so nice for him to honor teachers by hosting free food and drink for teachers at Fogo De Chao and also going around delivering bagels to schools,” Miriam Osowski, a teacher at Copper Mesa Elementary, said. “It definitely made us feel valued and appreciated.”
The pair partnered with Amy Ribich Evans, a fellow chamber member and generous donator to the cause in order to put their operation to the test. Evans plans to cater lunch once a month to the schools where Vasilauskas and Clower deliver bagels. I feel more energized and look forward to my deliveries every week,” Vasilauskas said. “I have made new friends and met some truly incredible people. I am hopeful that the connections I’ve made and ideas I’ve heard and shared with all these awesome members of this community will lead to some positive change.”
