FATHER OF FOUR- Offset – Review
//AIDEN CARTWRIGHT//
On February 21, Offset (Kiari Kendrell Cephus), dropped his well-anticipated album: Father of 4. Features on this album include Gunna, J Cole, Travis Scott, 21 Savage, Cardi B, Quavo, Gucci Mane, CeeLo Green, and Big Rube. After the other two members of the Migos have made their very own solo albums, this is hands down one of Offset’s more lyrically complex albums.
My favorite song is “How Did I Get Here (feat. J Cole)“, one of Offsets more lyrically advanced tracks on the album. With J Cole being classic J Cole on the song, Offset seems to be asking himself how he got to where he is. In fact, he explains in the first line that he wasn’t supposed to be where he is. This song explains some of the questions that may be floating through Offset’s mind, and how some of the people who he interacted with over time affect those questions. He also explains that people looked down on him. Despite this, he beat the odds and a lot of his “come-up” was shown in this track. I have to say that this is one of Offset’s deepest and most meaningful stories of his life.
Offset, at age 27, has four kids, Kulture Kiari Cephus, Kody Cephus, Jordan Cephus, and Kalea Marie Cephus. Offset explains his confusion after the birth of his kids and how he believes he was not prepared to be a father. The last track, “Came a Long Way”, shows how he is now just looking back on his career to this point and depicts his inspiration for this album.
Father of 4 Portrays a different emotion unique to Offset, but still with the same desired “Migo Flow,” in my personal favorite solo album done by one of the Migos. Listening to the struggles that Offset has gone through after making it rich gives people a whole new perspective about his life and the complicated life of today’s successful rappers.
