Amongst thousands of high schoolers from all over Colorado, Mountain Vista’s Technology Students Association shone as one of the top competitors at the state competition on Feb. 23-25. With over nineteen people going to nationals and the team taking fourth overall, Vista competed phenomenally and represented their school with pride.

“I am so proud of all of our students and how they competed,” technology teacher Kent Allison said. “MVHS students did a tremendous job.”

Events at the competition range from Biotech Design and Engineering Design to Tech Problem Solving and Fashion Design. Mountain Vista had 31 students leave the competition with a medal. Of all the medals earned, seven are for first place, ten for second place, and fourteen are third place medals.

An immense amount of work went into preparing for the state competition and the results certainly reflect the work members put in.

“There were lots of late nights and [we] lost some sleep but we got first place. It was worth it. It was definitely worth it,” senior Alex Doner said.

Doner and his teammates, seniors Justin Lim and Daniel Fairbanks took first place for the second year in a row in the Integrated Autonomous Vehicle event. They also placed second in the giant jenga competition.

While Vista displayed their impressive skills regarding technology, they also showed exceptional sportsmanship in the giant jenga competition.

“The State Director had MVHS Students stand to be recognized for their amazing sportsmanship in the intense [giant jenga] final,” Allison said. It can be easy to become consumed in the competitive aspect of state competitions, however Vista remained humble and supportive throughout the whole competition.

Mountain Vista’s TSA team competed valiantly and came out as one of the most successful groups in the state.
