Mallory Pugh, 2016 Mountain Vista graduate, made history on Aug. 9 by becoming the youngest United States Women’s National Team (USWNT) player to score in the Olympics.

At 60 minutes into the match against Columbia, the ball ended up between Pugh’s feet and after a bit of fancy footwork, an impressive shot went between multiple defenders and flew by Colombian goalie, Sandra Sepulveda.

Thus far in the games, Pugh has played in three games. In the first, against New Zealand, she played a role in an assist to Carli Lloyd for a goal. It was in this game that she became youngest player in US history to start in an Olympic match. During play, Pugh hurt her ankle and was placed on the bench for the following match against France.

Then the time came to face off with Colombia, where Pugh would make history (again) with her goal that put the US ahead 2-1. She is now the youngest player in Olympic history to score a goal during the tournament.

The USWNT will play Sweden in the quarterfinals tomorrow at 10 a.m. where Pugh is expected to return to a starting position.
