CHRISTIAN HOLTON AND KENZIE WINSLOW
Friday, Jan. 22 the Mountain Vista varsity hockey team will play Heritage in the second annual Eagle Cup.
The Eagle Cup is a tradition that takes place between Mountain Vista and Heritage high school. The winner of the regular season game between the two teams wins the Eagle Cup for that year.
Mountain Vista won the first ever Eagle Cup last year 5-2.
Vista is currently on a 6 game win streak. Their last win came Wednesday against Coronado. Vista beat Coronado 13-3.
Forward Kaden Stewart, junior, is confident in the team’s ability and looking forward to the game tonight. “We are coming off a strong offensive game,” said Stewart, “we need to keep that up but also stay strong defensively.”
Vista is currently ranked first in the Peak conference and was ranked 6th in the state this week. A win against Heritage would most likely cause Vista to move up a few spots in the state standings next week however, the rankings aren’t the most important thing according to Stewart. “The rankings don’t matter, the only thing that matters is who’s going to show up and play all three periods,” said Stewart, “the best way to look at it is that we are playing against ourselves, we have to improve somewhere every night.”
