Mountain Vista High School’s chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America competed at the state conference April 3 and 4, earning 28 medals in nine categories of competition.
Silver medalist Meera Khatri, junior, said she felt relief when she won a silver medal in the Environmental Ambassador event. “It was great knowing that all my hard work wasn’t wasted,” Khatri said.
First place gold medalist Paige Mawhinney, sophomore, said she initially felt shock. “I was surprised because some of the other [competitors] were really good,” Mawhinney said. “But it felt really good too.”
Winning a medal is not the last stop for Mawhinney. She has also qualified for the national competition, along with sophomores Savannah Raisor and Jenna Yoss, in Sports Nutrition. “Next year I want to be a leader and be more involved,” Mawhinney said.
