TARA O’GORMAN
Vanessa Hudgens starred in “Gimme Shelter” directed by Ron Krauss. As an abused teenager tries to escape the only life she has known, she faces many challenges.
Based on a true story, the main character Agnes played by Vanessa Hudgens, known as Apples, finds herself pregnant in the middle of all this ruckus. Her mother cannot let go of her only daughter in order to give her a better life.
Her father, on the other hand, is a Wall Street broker who rejects Apple’s decision to keep the baby. He has not been a part of her life, only sending her an apology letter throughout the course of 16 years.
This heart pounding drama is a winner. The movie is more of a modern twist on a rough life of a modern teenager. By all the thoughts and questions that come up, it is definitely a thinking movie. Although there are a lot of questions, not all of them are answered which could have made the story a complete hit. It was not a cliffhanger though.
“Gimme Shelter” is more for a female audience. It could be known as a chick flick. So make sure to leave the boyfriends at home and make it a girls night out.
The story overall was impacting by the way that it was a real story. With a girl that grew up with nothing, Apple made something out of herself.
The camera angles and acting was very thoughtful which helped add to the story line. Hudgens was key to the success of this movie. Her acting was taken up another level. She became the character which made it all very real.
I give it four out of five stars. This movie is a classic.
