On Friday, Nov. 1 Keystone Ski and Snowboard Resort opened for business. The resort’s ski area is open from top to bottom but only one continuous run is open at the moment.
There were festivities on Friday including music, free hot chocolate, doughnuts and other handouts. The first 200 people in line of the gondola received a raffle ticket for a chance to win a new GoPro HERO 3, Starbucks and other sorts of goodies.
Many students from Mountain Vista went up to enjoy opening day along with all other fellow skiers and snowboarders.
“It was pretty exciting to be back up on the mountain, but the runs were still pretty icy. Even still, I had a great time on the slopes and am ready for the rest of the season.,” Chandler Zastrow, 12, said.
“Opening day was a lot of fun! It wasn’t as crowded as I thought it was going to be which was nice,” Meghan Peaker, 12, said.
The conditions of the snow were fair, but by the end of the terrain was awfully icy and slick. There were surprisingly not very many people for the opening day, as Arapahoe Basin had a bit larger turn out. It is predicted that the snow will be a lot greater this year and it has already shown with the snowfall the mountains have been getting lately.
