United States Embassy Attacked

MICHAEL O’SULLIVAN

url

The Senate has been abuzz with accusations over the death of the American Ambassador to Libya in September ever since the incident occurred.  Now, another outpost of American diplomacy has been attacked in the Middle East, but the results have been far less destructive.

The United States Embassy in the Turkish capital of Ankara was attacked by a suicide bomber who claimed the life of a Turkish security guard as well as his own.  Another guard was left seriously wounded.

There was no loss of American life in the incident, but officials are alarmed as this is the second attack on an American diplomatic station in under a year.

With this attack comes renewed calls for the revision of security protocols at the consulates and embassies, especially in regions with histories of violence.

This is the second attack to come within Turkey; the first being a shootout that took place between the guards of the Istanbul Consulate and an unknown terrorist group that claimed the lives of three members of both sides.
