On Sunday Jan. 12, the 59th Annual GRAMMY Awards were held at the Staples Center and broadcasted on ABC.
The GRAMMYs has been one of the most influential nights in music for 59 years and Sunday night’s awards show was no different. Filled with tears, triumph and amazing performances, everyone is talking about what went down that night. Here are some of the highlights:
1. James Corden does some audience karaoke
Corden gathered tons of stars including Jennifer Lopez, John Legend and even Jay Z and Beyonce’s daughter Blue to sing Neil Diamond’s hit song “Sweet Caroline.” Soon the whole audience had joined in, and it was definitely a cool moment to see.
2. Twenty One Pilots accepted their award for Best Pop Duo/Group in their underwear
Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun stripped down to their underwear before coming onstage to accept their first Grammy in the category Best Pop Duo/Group for their hit song “Stressed Out.” Joseph said that this decision was based off of the fact that the pair always used to watch the Grammys in their underwear and had decided that if they ever won a Grammy, they wanted to accept it just like that.
3. Bruno Mars sang “Let’s Go Crazy” in tribute to Prince
Bruno Mars did a spectacular job with his tribute performance to Prince. He really captured Prince’s spirit and enthusiasm when he performed and he had everyone on in their feet.
4. Pregnant Beyonce performed
Beyonce, pregnant with twins, still did a breathtaking, nine minute performance of “Love Drought” and “Sandcastles.” With a daring chair stunt, and over 90 minutes of rehearsal time, the Queen B gave the crown nothing short of excellent.
5. Adele sang “Fastlove, Pt. 1” in tribute to the late George Michael… twice
Adele was given the honor of performing a tribute to the late, great George Michael. However, halfway into the song she stopped singing, cursed and asked to start over, saying she didn’t want to mess this up. She then started over and did an amazing job, even bringing people in the audience (and quite possibly at home) to tears.
