The Colorado Avalanche entered the midway point of the season on Thursday with a 17-16-8 record.
The Avalanche are currently in sixth place in the Central Conference and 11th overall in the Western Conference. The Avalanche are only four points away from the wild card spot currently held by Winnipeg and Los Angeles.
The Avalanche have had great net minding from Semyon Varlamov recently who on Tuesday, Jan. 6 had the best game of his career. Varlamov recorded an impressive 54 shot shutout and helped the Avalanche beat the Blackhawks 2-0. Varlamov is one of three goalies since the expansion area to have a shutout of 54 or more shots.
Along with Varlamov, fellow teammate Alex Tanguay also recorded a milestone recently. Tanguay achieved his 800th point after having two assists on Thursday, Jan. 8 against the Ottawa Senators. Tanguay also played his 500th game with the Avalanche on Monday, Dec. 29.
