The Rescue Run Preview

In 2010 the country of Haiti was hit with a magnitude seven earthquake. The damage was enormous and the country is still overcoming the destruction it caused.

In order to try and help with the continuing relief, Melissa Clark’s Honors English II class has organized a three mile run to help raise awareness and donate money to the cause.

The idea came about after the students in the class read global literature that discussed problems in other countries and wanted to do something to help. “We wanted to do something outside of our bubble,” Clark said.

The race costs $15 to participate in and the proceeds will be used, with the help of Helping Haitian Angels, to make backpacks and give supplies to Haitian children to acquire an education.

The event is being orchestrated by sophomores Ashlyn Dixson, Claire VanDeStouwe, Emma Townsend and Maddie Spillman. “It was hard to get the word out,” Dixson said. “It’s important because not a lot of people know what is happening,” Spillman said. “This is a good way to spread awareness and raise money.”

The run will take place on Nov. 2 at 8:30 a.m. The run will start at the Mountain Vista High School bus loop. Registration can be done on the website http://rescuerun.weebly.com/
