Since 2001, Mountain Vista High School has seen many amazing student body presidents that help make the school a better place for education. This year is no exception. Maya Winslow has had many accomplishments that have positively impacted Mountain vista and the community as a whole, but as the year came to a close, the time came for Winslow to pass on the role to an upcoming senior.

On May 2nd, underclassmen had the opportunity to vote on their 2019-2020 student body president. Four candidates, seniors Colby Field, Jessica Barich, Kate Sherman, Davis Helmrich, ran for the title of Student Body President, putting their time and effort to devise a plan for the school’s future. Using this plan, these candidates gave a speech to the student body, and appealed to the audience with the hope of being elected student body president.

“I have been involved in leadership for most of high school,” Barich said. “[As treasurer] I focus on small day to day stuff, but a lot of the responsibilities come from Wish Week. We deal with a lot of money and keeping checks organized.”

Despite all candidates being extremely talented only one candidate could be student body president. At the end of the day, Colby Field won the hearts of the student body and became the new Student Body President.

“[I ran because] I really like the unity at our school,” Fields said. “When I walk in the halls I really like saying hi to everyone and I just really like the people, so I wanted to be more involved in the student body.”

With these talented students in Student Leadership, Mountain Vista has a bright and promising future.
