Vista’s varsity softball team hosted their annual pink game against Highlands Ranch High School on Sept. 27. Vista wore pink jerseys to promote breast cancer awareness and to remember former team mom, Susan Cash, who lost her battle with the disease in the summer of 2016.

“As a team and [as] a school, we have had several devastating outcomes to cancer and I think the pink game is just a way of showing that cancer won’t always win and we will fight it as much as we can,” junior Kami Grammerstorf said.

The game drew a big crowd compared to the normal games the team hosts.

“I think that it was great that the school recognized the importance of the game and we got so many people to come watch,” junior Isabella Ingui said.

The Falcons started the game by scoring two runs in the first inning. The Golden Eagles responded in the bottom half of the inning with seven runs, leading Highlands Ranch, 7-2.

Vista continued to dominate the rest of the game. The Golden Eagles scored 12 more runs and prevented Highlands Ranch from regaining their lead. Vista went on to mercy rule the Falcons in the fourth inning, 19-3.

Vista’s next game is today after school at 4 p.m. The Golden Eagles host Chaparral High School.
