Beloved teacher, former Mountain Vista Tennis Coach, mother, and wife Susan Cash passed away Sunday, July 17. Cash had been battling cancer for over a year. She was diagnosed with Stage 3 triple negative carcinoma, an aggressive form of breast cancer, in May of 2015.
Susan was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma but spent most of her youth in Tebbets, Montana. She graduated from William Jewel College with a Psychology degree in 1991. Susan married Ric Cash on October 26 of the same year. Between 1994 and 2005 Ric and Susan would have 5 children, Zach, Kat, Jessi, Kariss and Jack. With great support from her family, Cash was able to stay strong.
Susan was a well-known, involved and loved member of many communities. She was the head girls’ tennis coach at Mountain Vista High School, served at Mountainview Community Church, a special needs teacher at Clear Sky Elementary, a team mom and an all around supporter.
“I will miss Susan terribly. She was an inspiration to everyone she met and I can honestly say she loved everyone she came in contact with in tennis. I know she is with Jesus now. Love you Susan, Vista Tennis was forever for the better because you were a part of it,” James Flanigan, current coach of girls tennis at Mountain Vista, said.
Mountain Vista High School counselor Wendy Straight created a GoFundMe page for the family called “Cash ‘Cancer Free By Christmas'” to raise money to help cover medical costs. As Susan’s battle with cancer began going downhill, Strait wrote on the page, “Susan’s condition has worsened and barring a miraculous healing (which we believe He can do) she is in her last hours and days. Please do what you can and pray for this family. She is at peace.”
“Susan Cash was an amazingly vibrant woman. She was a master of joy, of faith, and remarkable mother, wife, educator and friend. She lived her life with a grateful heart and was a role model to all of how to live each day,” family friend and MVHS counselor Wendy Strait said. “I am humbled to be her friend and I will miss her everyday.”
The GoFundMe page is still active for the family to help with expenses.
