The Colorado Avalanche (Avs) are entering the All-Star break with a 20-18-10 record.
They are currently in fifth place in the central division and only three points out of the wild card. The Avalanche are 5-3-2 in their last 10 games. The Avs won their last game before the All-Star break by beating the Boston Bruins in a shootout after being down 2-1 in the first period.
The only Avalanche player that was selected for the All-Star game was defenseman Eric Johnson. However Johnson will not attend the All-Star game due to a lower body injury. Johnson is the first avalanche defenseman to make the All-Star game since Rob Blake in the 2003-04 season. Johnson is tied for first in scoring amoung defenseman with 12 goals in 47 games this season.
The second half of the season is crucial for the Avs in determining whether or not they will make the playoffs.
