Before he dives into the new school year, Mountain Vista High School Principal Mike Weaver discusses the new year and what it will bring.
Eagle Eye: What are you looking forward to in the new year?
Mike Weaver: I always look forward to the energy of a new school year. It’s amazing how almost everyone seems to be coming in with positive aspirations.
EE: What would you like to change about yourself as a principal this year?
MW: I always reflect on the past year. I would really like to establish a deeper sense of trust with the staff and make sure to send a feeling that we are doing the right thing.
EE: What challenges do you feel will come with this new year?
MW: Numbers [of students] is becoming a lot more apparent. We are going to need to figure out how to handle classes with the larger volume of students.
EE: How do you learn and remember all the names of the new freshman?
MW: It takes a couple of years. I have individual conversations and try to make connections with people. During the first few weeks I also walk into classes and look at papers. It takes a while to learn all of the names of the freshmen.
EE: What would you like to say to all of the new freshmen and all of the returning students at MVHS?
MW: Stay involved and enjoy the experience. Remember to learn and appreciate the skills and interests of others.
