Spring Breakers

Vista boys lacrosse and baseball have started the season strong, both teams traveling out of state for tournaments over spring break.

Spring sports have sprung, and Vista’s boys lacrosse and baseball have hit the ground running. Both teams competed out of state over spring break, with baseball traveling to Phoenix, AZ, and lacrosse going to San Diego, CA. Both teams came out on top, with undefeated records.

In the heat of the desert, baseball traveled to the baseball diamonds of Greenwood High in Phoenix. There, they played for three days, facing off against four teams from around the country.

In the season opener against Brophy College Prep (AZ), Vista took the dub 11-1, with junior Zeke Borel being named player of the game and senior Tyler Mejia named as the winning pitcher.

The next night they played a double header against Stillwater (OK) and Greenway (AZ), winning 11-10 against Stillwater and 22-0 against Greenway. The last game against Casteel (AZ) ended in a 5-2 win, allowing the team to come home with a 4-0 record – quickly sliding into the number 1 baseball team in Colorado.

Meanwhile, just a state away, the boys lacrosse team traveled to San Diego to compete in a two day tournament against California teams. Fresh off a win against Mullen, Vista played and won 5-2 against La Costa Canyon, the number 4 ranked team in the west.

Their second and last game against La Jolla ended with a 18-2 win, creating back to back wins for an undefeated trip. Coming back to Colorado, the boys record is 3-0.

Both baseball and boys lacrosse have started the seasons strong – maintaining their state championship legacies.
