On Saturday, the varsity softball team travelled to Aurora Sports Park to compete in the regionals tournament for their league that would determine whether or not the Golden Eagles reached the state tournament.
To kick off a day that would see the team playing three games, Vista competed against Cherokee Trail High School. The Cougars held on to the game up until the fifth inning, when the Golden Eagles put 11 points on the board. Cherokee Trail was unable to overcome the Eagle’s lead, allowing Vista to earn a victory, 20-8.
Following their first win, the team moved on to play Eaglecrest High School but were consistently outplayed for the majority of the game, which they lost, 11-1.
The team’s loss in the second game of the day led it through the standings to play against Cherokee Trail for the second time in the day, an opportunity which Vista took advantage of by taking another victory, 15-9.
A win in the third game secured the Golden Eagle’s spot in the Colorado 5A state tournament. The team will attempt to make its run to the championship beginning at Aurora Sports Park at 12:15 p.m. on Friday, where they will play Arvada West High School.
