On Feb. 17, 18 and 19, Mountain Vista wrestlers took to the Pepsi Center to participate in the 2017 State Wrestling Tournament.
Seniors Trent Schultz, Nolan Stritchko and Preston Weaver, junior Nico Gonzalez and sophomore Roger Meyer were the Golden Eagles who took on the best of the best from around the state.
Gonzalez, Meyer and Stritchko didn’t make it to the consolation round, but Weaver did and finished sixth in state for the 5A 126 pound division.
Schultz went on to the 5A 195 pound Championship round to take on and defeat Zeke Silva of Cherokee Trail High School, becoming a back-to-back state champion.
