Senior Ben Antonsen has held the No. 1 singles position on the boy’s varsity team for the past three years. Freshman year, he was No. 2 singles. Antonsen started playing tennis when he was ten years old.

Tennis has always been natural for Antonsen. He felt like it was easy to play it right from the start.

“I would watch videos, and then go do the moves I saw,” Antonsen said.

Instead of playing doubles, Antonsen chose to play singles for a bigger challenge.

Since playing on the varsity team as a freshman, Antonsen has placed in the top five at state every year. Freshman year, Antonsen placed 2nd in State at No. 2 singles. His sophomore year he placed 5th at state in No. 1 singles. Antonsen’s freshman and sophomore year he was also the regional champion. Junior year he placed 4th in state. Antonsen’s sophomore and junior year on the varsity team he was undefeated in league.

“I just want to do my best with my team and play my heart out,” Antonsen said. “I want to be successful for the team and the coaches. Especially the coaches, they’ve been a big help all 4 years.”

Sept. 13th, the varsity team played against ThunderRidge High School. Antonsen was one out of three who finished their matches, due to the rest of the matches getting rained out. He won 6-2 and 6-0.

So far this year Antonsen has won seven matches and lost one. His goal is to make it to the State Championship match with his team.

“It’s a really fun group. Usually in tennis it’s an individual sport, but here you really get to experience the team atmosphere,”  Antonsen said.
