On September 7, 2016, the Mountain Vista girls varsity softball team played the Heritage Eagles in a league game.
Mountain Vista started off with momentum, scoring four runs, led by Juniors Rebecca Gonzalez and Erin Kerby’s triples.
Gonzales slapped a run-batted-in (RBI) single to increase the lead to 5-0 in the second inning.
Throughout the game, Heritage struggled with errors and was not able to put a runner on base. In the 5th inning, senior Paige McGuire scored on Erin Kerby’s RBI single. Sophomore Emily Sloan then hit a two-run double, and later scored on junior Savannah Howard’s RBI triple.
Gonzales knocked in the game winning run by hitting an RBI double to the outfield. Mountain Vista’s Golden Eagles beat the Heritage Eagles with a final score of 10-0, under the “mercy” rule.
“I just did what I needed to do,” Gonzalez said.
The Golden Eagles will play in the Dave Sanders tournament. Their first game will be this Friday, September 9th at 4:30pm at Aurora Sports Park, vs. Lakewood.
