The regular season is officially over for men’s ice hockey and the 2016 Colorado State Tournament has officially been announced. Vista’s 14-5 regular season record placed them in first place in the Peak Conference and gave Vista a first overall seed in the tournament.
The state tournament consists of two brackets of eight teams. The rankings of the teams in the first bracket are: No. 1 Vista, No. 2 Regis, No. 3 Lewis-Palmer, No. 4 Cherry Creek, No. 5 Liberty, No. 6 Steamboat Springs, No. 7 Cheyenne Mountain and No. 8 Aspen. The other side of the bracket includes: No. 1 Monarch, No. 2 Denver East, No. 3 Ralston Valley, No. 4 Doherty, No. 5 Dakota Ridge, No. 6 Valor Christian, No. 7 Resurrection Christian and No. 8 Heritage.
Vista’s side of the bracket includes two teams that Vista lost to this past weekend : Regis and Cherry Creek. Both of these losses were 1 goal losses (4-3 to Regis and 3-2 to Cherry Creek).
Vista’s first game is against Aspen on Feb. 26 at 6:20 p.m. at South Suburban Ice Arena.
“We have nothing to worry about heading into state,” junior forward Kaden Stewart said. “We will have a full roster for the first time starting Friday.”
