Mountain Vista’s girl’s varsity basketball team has gained the No. 6 seed, putting them in position to take on No. 11 Chatfield at Vista on Tuesday, Feb. 23.
Vista’s 14-9 record is far superior to Chatfield’s 7-16.
Senior Chelsea Pearson, who signed at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs to continue her basketball career, puts up an average of 16.5 points a game.
The entire team’s scoring average is 58.7, compared to Chatfield’s 47.2.
Leading the Eagles in rebounds per game (8.6) and coming up second in points (15.5) is senior Molly McCabe, a three-sport athlete who signed at South Dakota School of Mines for basketball.
Chatfield and Vista are both currently on a two-game losing streak, Vista falling to both rival school ThunderRidge (No. 2) and Regis Jesuit (No. 5) and Chatfield losing to rival school Columbine (No. 11) and Pomona (No. 11).
Despite the losses, Vista doesn’t hold any doubt in its ability to regain momentum going into the playoffs.
“I feel really strong about my team and where we can get with our talent,” senior Katrina Detmer said, adding the mentality of the game is what will determine success for the Golden Eagles. “We’re going to go as far as we believe we can go.”
