On Jan. 24, the National Hockey League (NHL) announced that the Colorado Avalanche will host the first ever outdoor NHL game in Colorado on Feb. 27, 2016. The game will take place at Coors Field which is a part of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series.
The Avalanche will face off against their old-time rival, the Detroit Red Wings.
This is the first outdoor game that the Avalanche have played in. This will be the Red Wing’s third outside game. Its current record is 1-0-1 in outdoor games. The Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks, 6-4, on Jan. 1, 2009 at Wrigley field and then lost, 3-2, in a shootout against the Toronto Maple leafs at Michigan stadium on Jan. 1, 2014.
Tickets will go on sale on a future date that has not yet been determined.
