With over 100 top hit songs, Prince Rogers Nelson became an instant musical prodigy and a complete game changer in popular music. Unfortunately, on Thursday April 21, at the age of 57 he was found unresponsive in Chanhassen, Minneapolis. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death and an autopsy will be conducted on Friday, starting at 9 a.m. Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive him, thus pronouncing Prince dead at 10 a.m., just 30 minutes after the Sheriff’s deputy responded to the call.

Absolutely stunned, fans and the world mourned the legendary singer in many ways. Below, is a timeline of events in which the famous singer was remembered.

 

10 a.m ET: Celebrities, Demi Lovato, Ariana Grande, and Shay Mitchell share their support with a post to Instagram.

1 p.m ET: the NFL replays Prince’s iconic Super Bowl Halftime show

2 p.m ET: AMC movie theatre announces they will be playing Purple Rain 4/23- 4/28, a hit movie of Prince’s, as a tribute to his death.

2:15 p.m. ET:  Sales of Prince’s music are soaring. Three of his songs — Purple Rain, Little Red Corvette and When Doves Cry — have surged to No. 7, 9 and 10 on iTunes’ top songs chart. Four of his albums — The Very Best of Prince, Purple Rain, The Hits/The B-Sides and 1999 — jumped to No. 1, 2, 3 and 8 on iTunes’ top albums chart.

2:52 p.m. ET: Snapchat adds a “Purple Rain” filter.

3 p.m. ET: As a dedication to Prince, rock band 5 Seconds of Summer played Prince songs during their European concert, President Barack Obama is lamenting the loss of a “creative icon”. In a statement, the president called Prince “one of the most gifted and prolific musicians of our time.” Obama also said “nobody’s spirit was stronger, bolder or more creative” than Prince’s.

3:58 p.m. ET: Mick Jagger tweeted his appreciation for Prince.

4:23 p.m. ET: The Minnesota Department of Transportation says it’ll light up the I-35W bridge in remembrance.

5:46 p.m. ET: The New Yorker tweeted out its cover for next week’s issue, which will rain purple in honor of Prince.

6:05 p.m. ET: The Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office in Ramsey, Minn., tweeted that it has received Prince’s body. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

6:23 p.m. ET: The tower bells in Minneapolis City Hall will play Prince songs for a half-hour Sunday, starting at 1 p.m., the city announces.

6:40 p.m. ET: Prince’s sister, Tyka Nelson, emerged from Paisley Park to look at flowers, balloons and signs left by her brother’s fans. Prince “loved all of you,” she told the assembled crowd. “Thank you for loving him back.”

8:27 p.m. ET: The Carver County Sheriff’s Office has released a transcript of the 911 call from Paisley Park. An unidentified male caller tells the dispatcher he’s calling to report an unresponsive male has been found.

9:33 p.m. ET: SiriusXM announced it launched a Prince Tribute Channel that will that will run through Friday, April 29, on channel 50. The channel will feature the entire body of Prince’s work as well as the work of artists with whom he was closely linked, SiriusXM president Scott Greenstein said.

10:38 p.m. ET: Filmmaker Spike Lee, a friend and collaborator of Prince, posted pictures on his Facebook page of a block party devoted to the icon outside of his home in Brooklyn, N.Y.

11:30 p.m. ET: San Francisco joined other cities in commemorating the music legend, lighting its city hall building in purple lights. Cleveland’s Terminal Tower, New York City’s Empire State Building, Denver’s Union Station and Paris’ Eiffel Tower are also lit in memory of Prince.
